About Us
Western New York Special Hockey Association, Inc.
Inspiring Athletes, Building Community.
Established in 2008, the Western New York Special Hockey Association, Inc.—home of the Buffalo Sabres Thunder—provides individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities the unique opportunity to experience the thrill of ice hockey and the importance of teamwork.
How it All Started
Believing that hockey should be accessible to everyone, they founded the association in 2008 with 15 players who proudly named the team the Buffalo Thunder. Soon, with the encouragement and support of the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL, they were renamed the Buffalo Sabres Thunder.
